Amid fears of fresh protests, officials have issued prohibitory orders under section 144 CrPC banning assembly of four or more people has been imposed in Sabarimala in Kerala from midnight Thursday for a week.
The Kerala police has deployed nearly 2,300 security personnel, including 100 women and a 20-member commando team in and around the shrine.
BJP activists, including a large number of women and children, marched to the administrative hub, Secretariat in Thiruvananthapuram, chanting mantras of Lord Ayyappa and holding the garlanded pictures of the deity.
Holding placards bearing pictures of Lord Ayyappa and chanting hymns, protesters marched through the busy roads of Kochi, the state’s commercial hub, after launching the stir from a Shiva temple there.
His comment comes two weeks after the Supreme Court order lifting the ban on the entry of women into the Sabarimala shrine.
Vijayan also clarified that the government was prepared for talks with all concerned in case of any misunderstandings over the state’s stand on the issue.
The plea, filed by Shylaja Vijayan, president of National Ayyappa Devotees Association, said the September 28 judgment which had allowed entry of women of all ages in the hill-top shrine is "absolutely untenable and irrational, if not perverse".
Announcing the call off, party’s state secretary MS Bhuvendran said the party has called off the shutdown announced earlier in the day.
