Chinese President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi used a BRICS summit in Russia on Wednesday to showcase ambitions for a more harmonious relationship between the world's two most populous countries after years of animosity.
The BRICS leaders committed to enhance international and regional cooperation to prevent and counter terrorist threats on the basis of full respect for the sovereignty and security of States and in accordance with the UN Charter and international law.
This was the first structured interaction between the two leaders in five years and followed the two countries reaching an agreement on Monday on resuming regular patrolling along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh.
The meeting took place amid the backdrop of the BRICS summit in Russia. This interaction could pave the way for further negotiations aimed at addressing the issues that have strained relations between the two nations in recent years.
