PM Modi's state visit to Austria marks the first by any Indian prime minister in the last 40 years as the countries celebrate 75 years of diplomatic relations. The Prime Minister will call on Austrian President Alexander Van der Bellen and hold talks with Chancellor Karl Nehammer on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Modi will be in Moscow from July 8 to 9 at the invitation of Russian President Vladimir Putin to hold the 22nd India-Russia Annual Summit.
PM Modi will visit Russia and Australia from July 8 to 10, days after the SCO Summit in Kazakhstan concluded. This will be his first visit to Russia in nearly five years at the invitation of President Vladimir Putin.
The relations between India and Russia have been on an upswing despite Western pressure over the Ukraine conflict, as India has continued to rely on Russian oil and defence exports. Putin has expressed his admiration for PM Modi several times in the past.
This comes after Jaishankar met Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow on Wednesday, where the latter invited Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Russia next year. Putin told Jaishankar that Russia's relations with India and its people are making "steady headway" despite "current turbulences".
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov noted that India is an important partner to Russia and that Jaishankar had already met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov. Jaishankar and Lavrov undertook several steps to boost cooperation in their bilateral meeting earlier today.
Jaishankar and Russian deputy PM Denis Manturov signed several agreements on nuclear power and in areas of medicines, pharmaceutical substances and medical devices during their meeting. The Kudankulam nuclear power plant is being built in Tamil Nadu with the technical assistance of Russia.
Wang will discuss a "wide range of bilateral cooperation issues" with his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov during his visit, including a discussion on Ukraine.
The meeting was being watched closely by Western countries amid concerns that North Korea may provide Russia with weapons to be used for the Ukraine conflict.
