The positive momentum over the past nine sessions has seen the rupee gain 48 paise since January 2, when it was at 83.32 against the dollar.
The rupee started the session weaker at 83.08 against the US dollar at the interbank foreign exchange, fluctuating between 82.86 and 83.10. The currency eventually settled at 82.90.
The rupee started on a weak note at 83.08, declining further to 83.10 against the dollar, eventually settling at 83.05, ending its seven-day winning streak.
Rupee v/s Dollar: At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened at 82.35 against the dollar, then pared the gains to 82.41, registering a loss of just 1 paisa over its previous close.
The rupee strengthened by 5 paise to 73.59 against the US dollar in opening trade on Monday, supported by foreign portfolio inflows and strong opening in domestic equities.

The rupee pared initial gains and settled on a flat note at 74.94 against the US dollar on Thursday after the RBI kept interest rates unchanged. At the interbank forex market, the domestic unit opened strong at 74.82 against the greenback, but lost ground during the day and finally settled at 74.94, unchanged from its previous close.

The rupee on Tuesday had dropped sharply by 97 paise to more than nine-month low of 72.39 against the US dollar as heavy sell-off in the domestic equity market, weak macro environment and a stronger greenback kept investors edgy.
The rupee has lost 25 paise, or 0.39 per cent, in the last two days. It hovered in a range of 64.13 and 64.34 per dollar during the day.
