The UK government on Tuesday confirmed the launch of a new trial for selected coronavirus patients of remdesivir, a drug which is believed to shorten the recovery time from COVID-19. “This is probably the biggest step forward since the coronavirus crisis began,” UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced at the daily Downing Street briefing.

Five Indian companies including Cipla and Jubilant Life Sciences have signed an agreement with US drugmaker Gilead for the production of Remdesivir, which is leading the pack for drugs that are considered as a potential treatment for coronavirus. As per the agreement, the drug Remdesivir will be manufactured for distribution in 127 countries.
The Food and Drug Administration on Friday allowed the emergency use of Gilead's remdesivir that appears to help some COVID-19 patients recover faster, a milestone in the global search for effective therapies against the coronavirus.
