Rakesh Tikait, the national spokesperson for the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and a prominent face of the Sanyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), was detained as the Delhi police was trying to prevent "undue gathering" in the national capital.
Farmers' protest: At the dharna venue, women activists from the Kisan Sangarsh Samiti from neighboring Sitapur recited poems highlighting farmers' struggles.
Following the ink attack, Rakesh Tikait today alleged security was not provided by the local police for the event in Bengaluru.
Earlier on Monday, the Supreme Court cancelled the bail granted by the Allahabad High Court to Ashish Mishra, son of Union minister Ajay Mishra, in the case and asked him to surrender within a week.
Tikait also added that the farmer umbrella body Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) will back every Chief Minister who fights for the farmers' issues.
A police team on Monday visited the house of Rakesh Tikait and recorded his statement after he lodged a complaint wherein he claimed to receive a call threatening to kill him.
“In the great festival of democracy, the decision of the people is paramount. The farmers' movement showed its effect. We hope that all the governments that have been formed will work for to uplift farmers and labourers in their respective states. Congratulations to all on the victory,” Tikait tweeted in Hindi.
Ashish Mishra, the son of Union Minister Ajay Mishra, is a key accused in the case and the Allahabad High Court granted him bail on February 10.
UP Election 2022: The national spokesperson of the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU), which is a part of the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM), said those talking on communal lines will not witness electoral gains in the region.
Earlier in December last year, the SKM had announced the suspension of their year-long agitation after they received a letter from the Central government, with promises of forming a committee on MSP.

Tikait said the farm leaders will hold a protest on January 31, to remind the government of their unfulfilled promises regarding a law for MSP guarantee and other farm issues that have still not been addressed.
