The MNS activists were already served notices warning them against creating any law and order issues before Thackeray's appearance in the Enforcement Directorate office in South Mumbai.
The incident happened a day after Thackeray issued a personal appeal to all his supporters and activists to maintain 'calm' at all costs as he was prepared to honour the ED summons on August 22.
The agency is probing Thackeray's involvement in the case in connection with the IL&FS group's loan equity investment in a company called Kohinoor CTNL.
Thackeray joins the ranks of several prominent opposition leaders across the country who criticized Modi's statements on Rajiv Gandhi, who was assassinated by a Sri Lankan Tamil suicide bomber on May 21, 1991.
His party may not be contesting the ongoing Lok Sabha polls but Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray has ensured significant attention as he campaigns in Maharashtra against the BJP and its ally Shiv Sena.
"If Pakistan is really sincere in their offer of constructive talks, then the first step in this direction must come from them. They have to release our pilot Abhinandan immediately and call for ceasefire," the Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief said.
Thackeray expressed the MNS' solidarity with him. He lauded the causes for which Hazare had been agitating without being concerned about his own life.
