Heavy rainfall predicted in Kerala from August 27

The IMD said the entire monsoon trough lies close to the foothills of the Himalayas. It is likely to remain there till August 26.
The IMD has also predicted an enhanced rainfall activity over the northeast, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, and Bihar from August 24.
The orange alert, which is valid till Sunday morning, has been issued for 24 districts, including Dhar, Ratlam, Ujjain and Dewas districts, PK Saha, a senior meteorologist with the IMD's Bhopal office, said.
There will be a gradual increase in rainfall activity over northwest India and Bihar with fairly widespread to widespread rainfall, with isolated heavy falls, very likely over Bihar, east Uttar Pradesh, and Uttarakhand till August 23, it said in a release.
Delhi has recorded just 63.2 mm rainfall against the normal of 157.1 mm so far this month as the capital and the adjoining regions in northwest India had entered a “break monsoon” phase, the second this season, on Aug 10.
The IMD said that fairly widespread to widespread rainfall activity with isolated heavy falls is very likely to continue over the northeast and sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim during next five days, while isolated heavy to very heavy falls are very likely over Assam and Meghalaya on Monday.
Subdued rainfall is very likely over north Indian plains (Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan), adjoining central India, and most parts of peninsular India (outside Tamil Nadu and Kerala), including Maharashtra and Gujarat till August 15
The entire monsoon trough is likely to shift close to the foothills of the Himalayas during the next 24 to 48-hours, the IMD said.
As monsoon rains increase the water level in rivers Ganga and Yamuna, the low-lying areas of Prayagraj have been inundated.
The minimum temperature at the Safdarjung Observatory, which provides representative data for Delhi, settled at 26.8 degrees Celsius while the relative humidity recorded at 8.30 am was 83 pc.
The city recorded a minimum temperature of 27.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, IMD said.
The orange alert - forecasting heavy to very heavy rain (measuring between 64.5 and 204 mm) at isolated places and valid till Saturday morning - has been issued for five districts – Vidisha, Raisen, Rajgarh, Guna and Ashok Nagar.
One such locality is Chitrakut Nagar where water logging situation has not witnessed much improvement in the last one month.
Speaking over flood situation in Madhya Pradesh, Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on August 03 said, "Due to heavy rain and floods, around 1,171 villages in Shivpuri, Sheopur, Datia, Gwalior, Bhind and Rewa areas have been affected. 800 mm of downpour received in 2 days. Rescue operations by Air Force will commence once weather gets better."
July recorded extremely heavy rainfall over coastal and central Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka. Several towns and cities in Maharashtra were deluged to very heavy rainfall which resulted in catastrophic events like landslides claiming scores of lives and damaging property.
Due to a well-marked low-pressure area and a monsoon trough, fairly widespread to widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over east Madhya Pradesh on July 31-August 1 and over Chhattisgarh and east Uttar Pradesh on July 31.
The water level was recorded at 204.92 metres at Old Railway Bridge at 6 pm. It went up to 205.59 metres at 9 pm on Friday and came down to 205.01 metres at 8 am on Saturday morning.
The low-pressure area formed over the north Bay of Bengal and neighborhood under the influence of Monday's cyclonic circulation over the same region, according to a release.
Delhi has recorded 14 rainy days this month so far, despite the delayed arrival of the monsoon on July 13, 16 days behind schedule.
