Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, the agricultural bowl of north India, are likely to observe less-than-normal rains during the second half of the season.
While all eyes are now on the weather god, reports have not been encouraging with private forecaster Skymet predicting a below normal monsoon this year.
Odisha has registered a deficit rainfall of 31.5 per cent in June this year, an official said. The state received an average rainfall of 148.3 mm against the Long Term Average (LTA) of 216.5 mm during June.
Overall, the country received 91 per cent of rainfall of the Long Period Average (LPA), which falls under "below normal" category, according to the IMD.
