In his conversation with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi emphasized that a peaceful and stable Afghanistan was of critical importance for Pakistan and the region, according to the Pakistan Foreign Office.
Qureshi will also meet his Sri Lankan counterpart Dinesh Gunawardena on Monday. Qureshi's visit comes immediately after President Rajapaksa's recent visit to India during which he met President Ram Nath Kovind and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
In an interview to BBC Urdu published on Saturday, Qureshi said Pakistan never followed an aggressive policy and always preferred peace, adding that the current government of Pakistan has repeatedly offered India to start talks because the two nuclear-armed neighbours cannot take the risk of going on a war.

Earlier in his address at the UNGA, Qureshi said; "Pakistan continues to face terrorism financed and orchestrated by India - shall never forget the mass murder of more than 150 children in a Peshawar School, the terrible Mastung attack and others that have links with terrorists supported by India".
His remarks comes a day after Sushma Swaraj had refused to interact with him at the South Asian Association Regional Cooperation (SAARC) ministerial meeting and left after delivering her speech without staying on for his address.
