Addressing a poll rally here, the Minister for Women and Child Development, Smriti Irani said only a BJP-led government can ensure Punjab's overall development and security.
Earlier today, Channi held an election event in Punjab's Ropar, alongside Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi, where he made a remark on people from UP and Bihar.

PM Modi said that while the BJP sees Punjab from the Punjabiyat angle, which is its priority, rivals see Punjab only through political prism.
BJP has accused Punjab CM Channi of insulting people from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar and attacked Priyanka saying Congress wants to divide the people of the country.
She also took a jibe at the Prime Minister and the Delhi chief Minister leaders for wearing a turban on stage during rallies ahead of elections in the state.
Ashwani Kumar quit Congress in the midst of assembly polls in five states and ahead of the February 20 election in Punjab. His resignation comes close on the heels of a spate of resignations, the most recent being that of another former union minister RPN Singh.
Arvind Kejriwal also said that Punjab is a sensitive border state and needs an "honest government" to check the proliferation of drugs and drones.
"This is our Punjab and this is safe in our hands. Charanjit Channi is a Chief Minister, he's not a terrorist," he said while speaking to media persons.
A BJP delegation, including Union minister Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi, met the EC with a memorandum and claimed that Sidhu had insulted Brahmins with a "derogatory" reference with an aim to divide Punjabis.
The BJP is contesting the elections in alliance with Amarinder Singh's Punjab Lok Congress (PLC) and Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa's Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).
Rahul Gandhi also promised that the drug problem would be wiped out from Punjab if his party returns to power. He added Punjab is a "sensitive" state, and it is only Congress that knows how to protect peace in the state.
The BJP is contesting the elections to the 117-member Punjab assembly in alliance with the Amarinder Singh-led Punjab Lok Congress and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt).
Addressing an election rally, Congress leader Sunil Jakhar alleged that Channi's chopper was not given permission for Hoshiarpur. The Congress party has asked the election commission to intervene.
Slamming the Arvind Kejriwal-led party, he said the AAP gave tickets to 44 people who came from other political parties. "Every third and fourth candidate of the AAP is facing criminal cases," Channi charged.
Channi has also been declared as Congress' Chief Ministerial face for the upcoming polls. Punjab will go to the polls on February 20.
AAP has fielded Bhagwant Mann as its Chief Ministerial candidate for the Punjab Assembly elections scheduled for February 20.
Addressing the rally, Shah said, "Channi sahib you are dreaming of forming another government. A person who could not secure the route of the prime minister, can he secure Punjab?"
The PLC is contesting the state assembly polls in alliance with the BJP and the Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa-led Shiromani Akali Dal (Sanyukt). Hitting out at the AAP over its Delhi model, Vadra cautioned voters against falling for the party's claims.
