The fully commercial PSLV-C42 rocket will carry two British vehicles, NovaSAR-1 and S1-4 made by the Surrey Satellite Technologies Limited (SSTL) in the UK.
The successful mission came after a rare failure in August last year when the PSLV-C39 could not release the backup navigation satellite IRNSS-1H due to a technical snag.
"My heartiest congratulations to ISRO and its scientists on the successful launch of PSLV. This success in the New Year will bring benefits of the country's rapid strides in space technology to our citizens, farmers, fishermen", PM Modi tweeted.
The mission will be the first Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle (PSLV) mission after the unsuccessful launch of navigation satellite IRNSS-1H in August.
