The curfew was imposed across the state in the wake of the killing of a tailor Kanhaiya Lal on June 28 (Tuesday) over a social media post supporting suspended BJP spokesperson Nupur Sharma. It also triggered communal tension in the city.
The killing in Amravati has similarities to tailor Kanhaiya Lal's beheading in Rajasthan's Udaipur, as he was also killed for supporting Nupur Sharma.
The development comes one day after the Supreme Court came down heavily on Sharma for her remarks on Prophet Mohammad. SC said her "loose tongue" has "set the entire country on fire" and that she is "single-handedly responsible for what is happening in the country".
The incident occurred between 10 pm and 10.30 pm when chemist Umesh Kolhe was going home on a two-wheeler after closing his shop. His son Saket (27) and his wife Vaishnavi were accompanying him in a different vehicle.

The case has been registered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and the UA(P)A. The case was initially registered at Dhanmandi police station in Udaipur.
Following the incident, Rajasthan Chief Minister has appealed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah to appeal to the youth of the state to maintain peace.
