PNG price hike: The price revision comes amidst rising prices of the natural gas at source both internationally as well as for domestically drilled gas.
Late on Tuesday -- within a week of steeply increasing the retail price of CNG and PNG, the Mumbai gas utility announced another hike in the prices of these fuels by Rs 5/kg and Rs 4.50, effective Tuesday midnight, citing the massive rise in input prices.
The IGL had on March 8 raised CNG prices by 50 paisa per kg but had left PNG prices unchanged. CNG now costs Rs 57.51 per kg in Delhi and Rs 59.58 per kg in Ghaziabad and Noida.
GGL supplies 1.45 lakh kg of CNG and PNG in Lucknow on regular days, but due to the surge in international prices, the supply has been decreased by up to 15,000-20,000 kg per day.
Given the massive increase in supply-side cost, the company is constrained to increase the base price of CNG by Rs 20/kg and domestic PNG by Rs 2/SCM in and around Mumbai, MGL said in a statement.

Indraprastha Gas Limited (IGL) announced a hike in prices of CNG and PNG with effect from July 8. CNG retail price in Delhi revised from Rs 43.40/kg to Rs 44.30/kg while PNG domestic price to be Rs 29.66 per SCM. On the other hand, Petrol is sold in Delhi at Rs 100.56 per litre and diesel at Rs 89.62 per litre.
After spike in petrol prices, CNG and PNG prices in the national capital also witnessed a hike. This hike in prices will be seen in Delhi and its surrounding cities and will be effective from March 02.
According to a statement issued by the IGL, the new CNG price of Rs 42.60 per kg in Delhi and Rs 49.30 per kg in Noida, Greater Noida and Ghaziabad would be effective from midnight tonight.
