    PM-KMY is a voluntary and contribution-based pension scheme for farmers in the age group of 18 to 40 years. Farmers will have to make a monthly contribution of Rs 55 to Rs 200 depending on the age of entry, in the pension fund till they reach the retirement age of 60 years. The Central government will make an equal contribution of the same amount in the pension fund.

    Stating that many states have rolled out the scheme, Minister of State for Agriculture Parshottam Rupala during the Question Hour urged the West Bengal and Delhi governments to implement the scheme at the earliest and ensure benefits reach farmers. The issue of non-availability of authenticated land records in Manipur, Nagaland and Jharkhand has been sorted out. In Jharkhand where land records have not been updated since 1932, the state government has been asked to update it soon, he added.

    In the Interim Budget FY20, government announced PM Kisan scheme or the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi Yojana (PM KISAN) with an objective of providing direct income support to farmers, pegged at Rs 6,000 per year to be paid in three installments.
