Replying to supplementaries during the Question Hour, Piyush Goyal said the Railways had set the target of 100 per cent electrification of its tracks by 2022.
Till last month the NHSRCL had acquired 39 per cent of the 1,380 hectares of land for the project. The bullet trains are expected to run at 320 km per hour, covering the 508-km stretch in about two hours. Trains plying on the route take over seven hours and planes for about an hour.
"Railways have decided to electrify 100 per cent of its broad gauge rail routes in mission mode, as a green mode of transport," Piyush Goyal said during Question Hour.
