Petrol prices were hiked across major cities on Monday, according to data from the Indian Oil Corporation (IOC). In Delhi, petrol was hiked by 28 paise from Rs 100.91 per litre to Rs 101.19 per litre.
The prices of petrol crossed the Rs 100-per-litre mark in 20 districts including Sambalpur, Bolangir, Sundargarh and Rayagada.
Petrol and diesel prices on Tuesday scaled new highs across the country after they were hiked for the 17th time in a month. Petrol price was increased by 26 paise per litre and diesel by 23 paise a litre.
The increase in petrol and diesel prices was expected as the global oil market has shown signs of firming up after positive news on the successful introduction of a coronavirus vaccine soon. Moreover, the demand for oil and falling inventory levels in major consuming markets has also firmed up the crude price.
After a gap of two days, petrol prices increased again on Friday and in the country's financial capital Mumbai, it was being sold at Rs 80 per litre. The petrol prices increased by 15-16 paise per litre in the four metros of Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai and Chennai, while there has been no change in the price of diesel. On the other hand, the price of crude in the international market remained close to the two-month high.
