Petrol and diesel prices were on Monday hiked by 40 paise a litre each, taking the total increase in rates in the last 14 days to Rs 8.40 per litre.
Fuel prices are on a significant rise in metro cities including Delhi, Mumbai, and Kolkata. On Saturday, the national capital saw a rise of more than 80 paise as petrol stood at Rs 102.61 per litre and diesel at Rs 93.87 per litre. In Mumbai, the petrol and diesel prices per litre stood at Rs 117.57 and Rs 101.79, respectively (increased by 85 paise).
Diesel and petrol prices have gone up by Rs 6.40 per liter each between March 22, when they were hiked by 80 paise per liter after a hiatus of 137 days, and March 31.
The protest will witness events like 'Padayatra' being taken out by the Congress leaders in their respective areas.
Rates have been increased across the country and differ from state to state depending on the incidence of value-added tax.
In the state capital Bhopal, the price of diesel reached Rs 100.1 per litre, while petrol stood at Rs 111.10 per litre, Ajay Singh, the president of Petrol Pump Dealers Association (PPDA), told PTI.
