At the time of the attack, the BJP leader was inside his house with family. Two of his cars parked outside caught fire in the incident.
Following the incident, a case has been registered against an unidentified person and an investigation is underway.
The incident came close on the heels of the razing of the statue of Lenin in Tripura and the desecration of a bust of Periyar in Tamil Nadu's Vellore.
After Lenin in West Bengal, Periyar in Tamil Nadu and Syama Prasad Mukherjee in West Bengal, a new incident of statue vandalism has now been reported from UP's Mawana.
Raja expressed regret if his post had hurt anybody's feelings. According to him, damaging the statues of Ramasamy is not agreeable.
Local residents have claimed that students of the university tried to vandalise the bust and painted its face black. The police have arrested six people after the incident.
This comes hours after a statue of social reformer and founder of Dravidian movement EV Ramasamy "Periyar" was allegedly vandalised in Tamil Nadu's Vellore district.
