In the first punishment awarded in the notorious Pehlu Khan lynching case of 2017, Alwar's Juvenile Justice Board sentenced two teenagers to three years in a special or safe home on Friday.
The Rajasthan government has filed an appeal in the high court here against the acquittal of all six accused in the Pehlu Khan lynching case. Pehlu Khan and his sons were thrashed by a mob on the suspicion of cow smuggling in Alwar's Behror on Aprli 1, 2017. Khan had died at a hospital in Alwar on April 3.
Six MLAs of the (BSP), which supports the Congress government in Rajasthan, met Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday evening and took a different stand from that of the party chief.
Sources said that Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday called a meeting to discuss the reinvestigation in the Pehlu Khan mob lynching case as the lower court in Alwar had acquitted all six accused on August 14.
"The acquinttal was done by the court due to lack of search, however, Vadra today tweeted agsinst the verdict and this could generate religious fenzy and it is also a contempt of court," advocate Sudhir Ojha said.
"The lower court decision in the Pehlu Khan case is surprising. There is no place for inhuman act and killing of a man by the mob in our country," she said in a series of tweets on Friday.
In most lynchings, the accused were happy being filmed while they lynched a human being. They wanted to be famous for these awful acts, But are we to now believe that no one killed Pehlu Khan? What will this deliberately shoddy prosecution tell his family, he tweeted.
