The move comes after the Supreme Court rapped the Centre over using its earlier on ‘mandatory authentication of users’ as a ‘tool’ by asking telecom operators to link their mobile numbers with Aadhaar.
In case the borrower does not have a passport, the bank should obtain a certificate in the form of declaration that the person does not have the passport, sources said quoting the Finance Ministry's advisory to banks.
"MEA has decided to continue with the current practice of printing of the last page of the passport and not to issue a separate passport with orange colour jacket to ECR passport holders."
