Tesla CEO Elon Musk stands to be the next owner of Twitter, having pledged roughly $44 billion to buy the social platform and take it private.
The Twitter buyout casts doubts on the future of CEO Parag Agrawal and it is still unclear whether he would like to remain at the helm, with Elon Musk now being at the very top of the platform.
Billionaire Elon Musk had been pitching to buy the company in the past couple of weeks and was putting out polls on the microblogging site asking users different aspects of their experience with it. Twitter said it will become a privately held company after the sale is closed.
In a meeting with employees, Twitter CEO Parag Agrawal said the board is still evaluating Musk's offer and will make a decision "in the best interest of our shareholders."
In a message late on Sunday, Parag Agrawal said Elon Musk has decided not to join Twitter's board. Reacting to the tweet, netizens shared their own reasons why he did not. Some users said that joining the board of Twitter would have prevented Musk from owning more than 14.9 per cent of the company.

Parag Agrawal has been with Twitter for more than a decade and has served as Chief Technology Officer since 2017. "I look forward to building on everything we have accomplished under Jack's leadership and I am incredibly energised by the opportunities ahead," he said.

The India-born executive- who succeeds Jack Dorsey in this role- served as Twitter's Chief Technology Officer since 2017, and has been responsible for the company's technical strategy.

Mumbai-born Parag's mother is a retired school teacher. His father was employed in the atomic energy sector and held senior positions there.
