In a major reform initiative, the government on Wednesday approved a long-pending proposal to restructure the nearly 200-year-old Ordnance Factory Board that operates 41 ammunition and military equipment production facilities into seven state-owned corporate entities to improve its accountability, efficiency and competitiveness.
Employees of 41 ordnance factories across the country had begun a strike on August 20 against government's plans to corporatise them as private sector entities.
“I would even go to the extent of saying that Pakistan probably has a better industrial base, as far as defence production is concerned, than our country," Lt. Gen. Sarath Chand said.
Udhagamandalam (TN), Nov 25: A worker was killed, 11 were injured and four 'missing' when an acid tank exploded bringing down the explosive dough making unit at Aravangadu Ordnance factory near here today, police said.
