The petitioner had sought the disqualification of MLAs Sanjeev Jha (Burari), Nitin Tyagi (Laxmi Nagar), Praveen Kumar (Jangpura), Pawan Kumar Sharma (Adarsh Nagar), Shri Dutt Sharma (Ghonda), Rajesh Gupta (Wazirpur), Sarita Singh (Rohtas Nagar), Dinesh Mohania (Sangam Vihar), Amanatullah Khan (Okhla), Kailash Gahlot (Najafgarh) and Jarnail Singh (Tilak Nagar).
In January, the Election Commission had recommended disqualification of 20 MLAs of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) reducing the total number of AAP MLAs in the Delhi assembly to 46 from the then existing 66.
The Election Commission on Friday announced that it will grant an oral hearing to the 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs in the office of profit case on May 17.
The High Court asked the Election Commission to file an affidavit stating the factual aspects behind its decision to disqualify the 20 Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLAs for holding office of profit.
The high court also continued its interim order which asked Election Commission to not issue any notification for Delhi bypolls on the 20 assembly seats in Delhi.
On January 21, President Ram Nath Kovind had approved the disqualification of AAP MLAs, after the Election Commission had recommended the same on January 19.
AAP filed a fresh plea in the Delhi High Court seeking quashing of the disqualification of its 20 lawmakers by the President on the recommendation of the EC.
The high court, which is yet to pass any order on Congress'petition, had earlier directed the state government to withdraw the power of all parliamentary secretaries.
Congress party today released a document in media that shows Dwarka MLA Adarsh Shastri accepted payment of Rs 15, 479. Shastri was appointed as parliamentary secretary to Information and Technology Minister.
