Kargil War hero, Lt Gen Y.K. Joshi has been named as chief of the Indian Army's Northern Army Command and Lt Gen C.P. Mohanty as the Southern Command chief, the Indian Army said on Thursday.
In a series of interactions, the Army commander, accompanied by Lt Gen K J S Dhillon, Chinar Corps Commander met people at Vilgam (Kupwara district), Rampur and Boniyar (Baramulla district), a defence spokesperson said.
He also visited the Nagrota military station, where he was updated by the White Knight Corps Commander on the prevailing security situation and the arrangements made for Amarnath Yatra in view of the recent threats by the terrorist groups, he said.
