The statement from the North came just hours after Pompeo wrapped up two days of talks with senior North Korean officials without meeting North Korean leader Kim Jong Un but with commitments for new discussions on denuclearisation and the repatriation of the remains of American soldiers killed during the Korean War.
Pompeo will visit Pyongyang for two days before heading to Tokyo to meet with South Korean and Japanese officials.

Delegations from both sides met at about 10 a.m. at the Peace House in the border village of Panmunjom, Xinhua news agency reported.
The two sides, however, still have to negotiate the terms under which the North would give up its nukes and win relief from sanctions — a goal that has eluded US administrations for a quarter-century.
Seoul’s Unification Ministry said Friday the reunions will take place at North Korea’s Diamond Mountain resort from Aug. 20 to 26.
The meeting started at around 10 a.m. at a hotel on Mount Kumgang on the North's scenic east coast.
Kim is in Beijing on his third visit to China this year, underscoring the major improvement in relations between the communist neighbors.
Dana White, spokeswoman for the Defence Department, said planning for the summer drills has stopped, but there have been no decisions made on any other military exercises with South Korea.
Kim’s visit to Beijing, while expected, is one way for China to highlight its crucial role in U.S. efforts to get North Korea to abandon its nuclear program.
"Our world has seen more than enough conflict. If there's a chance at peace, if there's a chance to end the horrible threat of nuclear conflict, then we must pursue it at all costs," Trump said in a video message.
