Bus Romeos and others in Tamil Nadu beware. The Tamil Nadu government has decided to install closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in all the buses to enhance women's safety, said Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam.
The move came after massive uproar in the entire country over multiple instances of rape, attempt to murder and murder of the victims emerged in news headlines, raising questions over the security and safety of women in the country.
The women help desks would focus on making police stations more women-friendly and approachable, as they would be the first and single point of contact for any woman walking into a police station.

As per the data, the corpus transferred to the Public Account for the Nirbhaya Fund up to 2018-19 was Rs 3,600 crore out of which since 2015, the central government was only able to release Rs 1,513.40 crore till December 2018.
A parliamentary panel has taken strong exception to the utilisation of Nirbhaya Fund in construction of buildings, saying such allocations virtually defeat the very purpose of the project -- the women safety.
The project in the first phase, with a total financial implication of Rs 767.25 crore, may be set up in nine states with 777 FTSCs while in second phase 246 FTSCs will come up.
