Prime Minister Narendra Modi said justice has prevailed after four men convicted of the gang rape and murder of a Delhi woman were hanged on Friday.
Nirbhaya's parents did a countdown as the time of the execution of the four convicts neared. This is the first time that four men have been hanged together in Tihar Jail. The executions were carried out after the convicts exhausted every possible legal avenue to escape the gallows.
The four convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case were hanged to death at Delhi's Tihar Jail in the wee hours of Friday. Following the execution, hangman Pawan Jallad left for Uttar Pradesh's Meerut amid tight security arrangements.
"I want justice too. Kill me too. I don't want to live. My husband is innocent. Why is the society after us?", she cried hysterically outside the court. "We were living with the hope that we will get justice but we are being killed everyday for the past seven years," she said.
The Supreme Court will on Monday consider 'in chamber' the curative plea of one of the four death row convicts, Pawan Kumar Gupta, in the 2012 Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case, a day before their scheduled hanging.
The Delhi High Court will, on Wednesday, pronounce verdict over the plea filed by the Centre challenging a sessions court's order which stayed the death warrants issued against the four convicts in the Nirbhaya gang rape and murder case.
Delhi High Court stays on the execution and hanging of convicts till further order, speaking on this Nirbhaya's Mother said that convicts' lawyer challenged her saying that convicts will never be executed.
A Delhi court on Friday stayed the February 1 execution of convicts in the Nirbhaya gangrape and murder case. According to the order, the execution cannot take place till the next court order.
