The search operation has been launched following the encounter in Chhattisgarh's Kanker district. The security forces also recovered the body of a Naxalite and an AK-47 rifle during the search operation.
Chhattisgarh news: According to the police, Tirupati Katla, the convener of BJP Cooperative Cell of Bijapur, was attacked when he had gone to attend a wedding and was brought dead to the hospital.
The attack occurred around 9.30 am in a village under the Kutru police station limits where a CAF team was deployed for a security at a market.
The incident took place at Bairio forest between Sadar and Basisthnagar Jori police station areas. The death of two security personnel was confirmed by a local police officer in Chatra.
The three cadres told police that they were "impressed" by the district police's rehabilitation drive for Naxalites, called 'Puna Narkom' (a term coined in local Gondi dialect which means New Dawn, New Beginning).
The operation, which took place at Pandumeta Hills under the jurisdiction of the Jagargunda police station, involved personnel from the CRPF, its elite unit - Commando Battalion for Resolute Action (CoBRA), Special Task Force (STF), and the district police force.
The incident occurred around 11 am in the Aamdai Ghati iron ore mine area under Chhote Dongar police station limits when the security personnel were out on an area domination operation, according to a senior police official. The deceased jawan was identified as Kamlesh Sahu.
Police said the IEDs were planted using the foxhole mechanism by a digging tunnel from the side of the road. The development has come just days after Assembly election concluded in the state.
Polling of the first phase on 20 seats has already been conducted in the state while voting for the second phase on the remaining 70 seats will be held on November 17. Results will be declared on December 3.
