The latest development comes in the wake of a joint operation by Gujarat ATS and NCB in Bhopal which busted the drug manufacturing factory in Bhopal and seized Mephedrone and other manufacturing materials worth a staggering total value of Rs 1814 crores.
The amount of seizures is significantly high and comes a few days after the biggest-ever recovery of cocaine was made in Delhi. Gujarat Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi praised the dedication of law enforcement in safeguarding the health and security of the society.
The case came to light in 2020 after drugs and cash were confiscated from a car intercepted by the Police in Handwara. The case was taken over by the NIA later whose investigation revealed that funds were raised by selling the narcotics which were, in turn, used for terrorism.
Separate arrests have been made by the Pune Pune Police and the Maharashtra Excise Department in the case. Meanwhile, four cops have also been suspended after the bar was found operating beyond permission time in their area.
In an anti-drug operation, substances worth Rs 3.5 crore were seized by the Ahmedabad crime branch. In 2023-2024,the Revenue Intelligence officers had seized contrabands worth Rs 3,500 crore, with narcotic drugs and gold seizures constituting a major chunk.
The persons with drugs and explosives were arrested after the security forces got information about their suspected movement. The forces laid down a trap and arrested them while they were searching for purchasers of the drug.
The latest operation marks the second huge seizure and arrest in nearly 10 days. Earlier, narcotics worth Rs. 8.5 crore was seized while 4 peddlers were arrested on May 24.
