Nitish Kumar, accompanied by Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, visited the state-run Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH), where they met children undergoing treatment and also their parents, a district health official said.
The NHRC had issued a notice to the Bihar government and the Union Health Ministry calling for a detailed report on the growing number of child deaths caused by the encephalitis virus Muzaffarpur.
According to the state government officials, majority of the victims had died due to hypoglycemia, a condition caused by a very low level of blood sugar and electrolyte imbalance.
Since June 1, 197 children have been admitted to SKMCH, while 91 were admitted to Kejriwal Hospital with suspected Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES), but most of them were found to be victims of hypoglycemia.
Till date, more than 140 cases of AES have been reported from 11 districts - Muzaffarpur, Vaishali, Samastipur, Sheohar, Sitamarhi, East Champaran, Patna, Gaya, Jehanabad, Bhojpur and Aurangabad.
The incident occurred near the ATM located on Chhath Ghat road under the jurisdiction of Sahebganj police station.

The incident happened around 7 pm, said Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) of Muzaffarpur Town, Mukul Ranjan.

"Girls are raped left, right and centre. Every six hours a girl raped in the country," an infuriated Supreme Court said citing data from the National Crime Records Bureau.
"The PM doesn't say anything on the incidents of rape. What happened against women in these four years is something which didn't happen even in last 70 years," Rahul Gandhi said.

On Sunday, Union minister C P Thakur also had said that Manju Verma should resign taking moral responsibility for the sexual abuse.
"I have been asking for a scheme where each state should have a single large facility to house all such girls and children which should be run by the state government," she said.
If someone related to the Minister is involved, they won't be spared. But why is this issue being raised only now.
