A 46-year-old man and his driver were arrested for allegedly selling the anti-fungal drug amphotericin, used for the treatment of mucormycosis, at an exorbitant rate, police said on Monday.
Till now, 5,424 cases of Mucormycosis reported in 18 States/UTs. Out of 5,424 cases, 4,556 patients have history of COVID19 infection. 55% of the patients had diabetes, says Union Health Minister Dr. Harsh Vardhan
The Pune district administration has directed health officials to screen COVID-19 survivors in rural areas to identify any suspected cases of mucormycosis, or black fungus.
Uttar Pradesh's Auraiya district has reported the first death caused by black fungus.
Meanwhile, the state's Deputy Chief Minister CN Ashwath Narayan said the state has recorded about 700 cases of black fungus infections in the last week, as he directed experts to find its sources, with doubts being expressed about oxygen supply, quality of piping and cylinders used for it.
