Researchers at Indian Institute of Technology, Hyderabad, have developed an oral solution to treat Black Fungus (Mucormycosis) and other fungus and are ready to transfer the technology to take it forward, the premier institute said.
The victim also left behind a suicide note in which he mentioned the reason behind his extreme step and expressed fear that he may suffer due to mucormycosis as he had just recovered from COVID-19 and also had diabetes.

While the Centre placed a report giving the steps taken by it to source the medicine and overcome shortages, the high court directed it to give further details on current status of its imports and when the stocks are expected.
According to a statement by the state health dept, the committee which comprises experts from public and private sector, including medical experts, would advise the state govt on prevention and treatment of the disease.

According to a senior official, 153 cases of black fungus or mucormycosis were recorded on Thursday, taking the total number of such cases in Delhi to over 770.
The court said it was sure that a patient’s granddaughter, who was seeking direction to the govt and Sir Ganga Ram Hospital to provide sufficient number of vials of Amphotericin B to him, was not seeking any preferential treatment over other patients.
A bench comprising Justices Vipin Sanghi and Jasmeet Singh said, "We direct that if any import is made by any person of this drug (Amphotericin B), it shall be allowed on a bond furnished by the importer without the actual duty being paid, till a decision is taken by the Centre."
With 2,281 confirmed cases of mucormycosis (also known as black fungus) on May 24, Gujarat tops the chart for these cases in India, followed closely by Maharashtra with 2,000 cases. These two states alone account for 55 per cent of all cases in the country.
Genetic Life Sciences on Thursday began manufacturing Amphotericin B Emulsion injections, which are used for treating mucormycosis or black fungus.
These include patients living in outer districts and states apart from Gurugram. Those who are being treated in various hospitals of the district, according to the district health dept.
Seeking to quell the alarm over rising cases of mucormycosis in Covid patients, epidemiologists on Tuesday underlined the importance of analysing the kind of fungal infection, its causes and risk factors and said the colour of the fungus should not lead to panic.
As per the data shared by the district administration, at least 195 patients were in the age group of 18 to 45, and 247 between 45 and 60 years of age. There was also several patients above the age of 60.
Maharashtra Health Minister Rajesh Tope on Tuesday said that the state government has classified black fungus as a notified disease.
The government has allocated additional 19,420 vials of Amphotericin-B to various states, Union Territories (UTs) and Central Institutions on May 24, Union Minister Sadananda Gowda said on Tuesday.
The Health Minister informed that India has reported 5,424 cases of Mucormycosis from 18 states and union territories. In addition, he also revealed that among these 4,556 patients have a history of COVID19 infection.
The doctors said that factors such as the use of steroids in the treatment of COVID-19 and co-morbidities can make a patient more vulnerable to black fungus. They said they anticipated there would be cases of black fungus due to COVID-19 but now there is a scarcity of drugs.
A 46-year-old man and his driver were arrested for allegedly selling the anti-fungal drug amphotericin, used for the treatment of mucormycosis, at an exorbitant rate, police said on Monday.
