Roger Federer beat Denis Shapovalov 6-2, 6-4 while John Isner got the better of Felix Auger-Aliassime, 7-6, 7-6 in the semi-finals of Miami Open.
The day's winners were Federer, Shapovalov, Barty, Pliskova and the rain.
Williams, making her 20th appearance in the tournament, won the title in 1998, 1999 and 2001 when the event was played on Key Biscayne.
The American had just won the biggest title of his 14-year career, holding every service game and rallying past Alexander Zverev in the finals.
The 25-year old Stephens had beaten three former Grand Slam champions - Garbine Muguruza, Angelique Kerber and Victoria Azarenka - to make it to the finals of Miami Open.
