The former Lok Sabha Speaker further said that she strongly believes in the age-old tradition of respecting one's own religion as well as other religions with the same zeal.
“The 17 opposition parties unanimously made me their presidential candidate. They believe that I should be at the centre of the ideological war,” Meira Kumar said.
Meira Kumar will meet Congress and Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) legislators as part of her campaign.
Kovind (71), a low profile Dalit leader from Kanpur Dehat, is seen as an astute choice by the NDA, which has been targeted by opposition parties over Dalit issues.
Meira Kumar today appealed to all the MLAs and MPs from Tamil Nadu to listen to their "inner voice" when they cast their votes in the presidential polls on July 17.
