Polling for 59 Assembly seats, out of a total of 60, was held on February 27. A Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) candidate was killed in an IED blast, which resulted in countermanding of the polls in one seat.

While Tripura went to polls on Feb 18, voting in Meghalaya and Nagaland was held on Tuesday (Feb 27). Counting will begin from 8 am in all the states amid tight security, Election Commission officials said.
The political fight will definitely not be a cakewalk for the saffron party as all the three states are expected to see a tight contest with parties wanting to outshine each other.
While the tenure of Left-ruled Tripura Assembly ends on March 14, the tenure of Nagaland and Meghalaya Assemblies will end on March 13 and 6, respectively.
Five early voters from each of the 3025 polling stations in 59 of the 60 Assembly constituencies were rewarded with ‘early voter medals’ by the state Election Commission.
Around 75 per cent voters exercised their franchise today in the Assembly polls in Meghalaya and Nagaland, where sporadic violence claimed one life in a clash between the ruling Naga Peoples' Front and BJP, officials said.
In last assembly elections, 90.57 per cent polling was recorded in Nagaland and 89 per cent in Meghalaya.
Buoyed by the formation of governments in Assam, Manipur and Arunachal Pradesh, the BJP is making a determined bid to expand its footprint in the north-east.
The high-octane poll campaign in the two northeastern states ended on Sunday as barbs flew thick and fast among parties.
Speaking at a rally in poll-bound Meghalaya, Rahul Gandhi said the BJP-led government had failed to create jobs for youth and fair prices to farmers for their produce.
Rajnath Singh said the incident indicated "utter chaos and lawlessness" in the northeastern state while Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader Vijaj Raj said it was a "political murder".
Sangma had only recently joined the NCP having come close to winning the Williamnagar seat in the previous Assembly Elections in the state in 2013.
"They (BJP) came to power in 2014 with promises to the people but they could not keep any of these promises and people are upset with them," he said.
