Ganesh Chaturthi news: The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) issued the ban on meat for tomorrow and it will be applicable in all areas within the BBMP limits.
The Hindu Sangharsh Samiti submitted a memorandum addressed to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar demanding that the civic authorities should abandon the process to issue any such licence.
A BBMP official said every year on Sri Rama Navami besides Gandhi Jayanti, Sarvodaya Day and other religious events, there is a ban on the sale of meat and animal slaughter.
East Delhi Mayor Shyam Sunder Aggarwal on Apr 5 had said that the three-day closure of the abattoir was an annual exercise and "not a new order".
Her statement comes amid meat ban row triggered by SDMC mayor Mukesh Suryan's letter demanding meat shops closure in the municipal area during Navaratri.
Some meat shops dump waste in gutters or beside the road, which the stray dogs feed on and is not only unhygienic but also an appalling sight for passerby, SDMC Commissioner Gyanesh Bharti, Suryan said.
On Sept 10, 2021, the Additional Chief Secy (Religious Endowment), had passed an order to designate the 22 municipal wards.
Restaurant and food outlets serving non vegetarian foods are asked to shut down for one week.
