This suggestion of security officials came after Pakistan Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi said the JeM chief is "unwell".
“He (Masood Azhar) is in Pakistan. According to my information, he is very unwell. He’s unwell to the extent that he cannot leave his house because he is really unwell. So, that’s the information I have”, Qureshi told CNN in an interview.
China, a close ally of Pakistan, has consistently blocked moves first by India and later by the US, the UK and France to designate Azhar as a global terrorist by the 1267 Committee by putting technical holds.

The facility at Balakot was headed by Yousuf Azhar, the brother-in-law of the JeM chief.

China's stand comes after a JeM suicide bomber carried out one of the most deadliest terror attacks in India's history, in which at least 40 CRPF personnel were killed in Kashmir's Pulwama district.
According to reports, the killed terrorist is believed to be a relative of Jaish-e-Mohammed's chief Masood Azhar Hazrat Ameer Mukhtar. However, an official confirmation is awaited in this regard.
Asserting that it will decide on the issue on the 'merits of the matter', Beijing said that it has stated its position over the issue 'many times'.
Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi said the issue lacks 'consensus' among the members of the UN Security Council as well as the 'directly concerned' parties - India and Pakistan.
Azhar's statements came out in an audio clip released by the party, where he is heard addressing a gathering a new recruits.
