Addressing the Lok Sabha during the Question Hour, Mansukh Mandaviya said the Union government made "all possible efforts" to ensure the availability of oxygen and increased its production following a rise in demand during the second wave of the pandemic.
Mandaviya also hit out at the opposition over claims about deaths due to oxygen shortage during that period, saying the Centre sought from states data on the matter and only the Punjab government replied that there were four suspected cases of such deaths and a probe into them was underway.

On Tuesday, Mansukh Mandaviya informed the Rajya Sabha that no case of Omicron variant had been reported in the country as of now.
"With the current pace, a maximum of 3 percent requirement can be met. We need to make people aware, " he added.
"Never in the past was health considered as wealth. The present Union Govt under the leadership of PM Modi is working on these lines to provide health security to all through its various health welfare schemes," Mandaviya said.
It is mandatory for all ration card holders to get both their shots and it is also the responsibility of the seller to check whether the customer has followed these protocols, MP government's new order said.
The health ministry today informed that 110.23 cr vaccine doses have been administered so far under the nationwide vaccination drive.
The countrywide vaccination drive was rolled out on January 16 with healthcare workers getting inoculated in the first phase. The vaccination of frontline workers started from February 2.
The theme of the summit is "Opportunities and Partnerships in Pharmaceuticals and Medical Devices."
The RNA-based vaccine, meant for the age group of 12 to 18 besides adults, got the Emergency Use Authorisation from the drug regulator on August 20.

Earlier on Monday, the WHO said it is expecting one additional piece of information from Bharat Biotech regarding its COVID-19 vaccine COVAXIN.
The minister said while it takes 5-10 years to test and develop vaccines, India has researched and developed an in-house vaccine, and to add to the complex manufacturing, the humongous logistics involving setting up cold chains, airport transfers, delivery to states, local storage and last-mile connectivity were set up in no time.
The Congress' attack came after former prime minister Manmohan Singh's daughter, Daman Singh, accused the minister of getting a photographer against the wishes of the family.
