Rasikt Mondal was sentenced to life imprisonment by District and Sessions court in Malda in 1992 after being arrested in 1988, on the charge of murdering his brother in a land dispute case.
A few locals came forward to victims after the fatal road accident. They called the police seeing several people trapped in the damaged vehicle. They took them to a nearby hospital.
The deceased in the horrific lightening strike incident include two minors and a couple. the district administration has announced a compensation of Rs. 2 lakh each for the families of deceased.

According to police, TMC candidate Mustafa Sheikh was attacked and beaten by unidentified criminals in the Sujapur area on his way home in the afternoon.

Police on Friday seized an unspecified quantity of India made foreign liquor (IMFL) from an ambulance in Malda district of West Bengal and arrested its two occupants. The private ambulance, carrying no patient, was being used to ferry liquor during the lockdown period, police said.
Ten persons are still undergoing treatment at the Bangitola hospital while two patients have been referred to Malda Medical College and Hospital, Mistri said. The rest have been discharged from the facility at Bangitola, he added.
Superintendent of Police, Alok Rajoria said acting on a tip-off a police team led by sub-inspector Soumyajit Mallik raided Baishnabnagar school ground on Friday night and detained three persons.
