After remaining closed for nearly 80 days due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala reopened its doors for common devotees on Thursday, with strict precautionary measures like wearing of masks and maintaining social distance put in place.
A three day trial run of darshan began at Lord Venkateswara temple at Tirumala on Monday with staff and others attached to it following strict protective measures.
Officials of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD), which manages the affairs of the hill shrine, said the number of devotees increased by 20 per cent over the previous year.
The festival would begin with the hoisting of the 'Garuda' flag by the high priests, amid chanting of vedic hymns, atop the sacred golden flag mast (Dwajasthambham) at the hill temple, Talari Ravi, Public Relations Officer of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, which runs the temple, said.
