According to reports, one of the three people who were infected with Lassa fever has died in the UK on February 11. The infections have been linked to travel to West African countries.
In 20 per cent of infected individuals, the Lassa fever may progress to more serious symptoms including bleeding, breathing difficulty, repeated vomiting, facial swelling, haemorrhaging (in gums, eyes, or nose), pain in the chest, back, and abdomen. Neurological problems including hearing loss, tremors, and encephalitis are also been described.
