The encounter began this afternoon at a village in Kulgam as Jammu and Kashmir Police, along with the CRPF and the Army, were carrying out operations to clear a national highway ahead of the Amarnath Yatra, beginning June 28, a senior police official
"If you make such statements before terrorists, they will kill you but the Army won’t," the Indian Army officer said.

Shahnawaz Ahmad Mir, a resident of Bugam in Kulgam, was apprehended during random checking at naka point set up at Takia Adijan in the district, a police spokesman said.
According to reports, the grenade exploded outside his residence due to which terrorists missed their target.
The youth identified as Arif Ahmad Lone was injured after protesters in Hawoora village pelted stones at an Army patrol party. Doctors said the youth is stable.
Inspector General of Police Muneer Khan said that all three are local terrorists and that they were radicalised. They have been identified as Atta Muhammad Malik, Shamshul Waqr and Bilal Sheikh.
Two separate gunfights erupted this morning between security forces and militants in Kulgam and Pulwama districts of Jammu and Kashmir.
