Fire broke out at TMC MLA Madan Mitra's residence in the Bhabanipur area in south Kolkata on Tuesday morning.
The fire on the 13th floor of the New Koilaghat building on Strand Road, which houses offices of the Railways at Kolkata's Strand Road claimed the lives of four firefighters, two railway officials, an assistant sub-inspector of Kolkata Police, a Railway Protection Force official and a security person.
Most of those killed are first responders -- four firefighters, one assistant sub-inspector posted at the Hare Street police station and an RPF personnel, officials said.

The seven people who have died in the Kolkata fire include four personnel of the fire department, one police personnel and a Railway Protection Force officer, informed West Bengal Fire and Emergency Services Minister Sujit Bose.
