El Nino impact: India is expected to get normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon season despite the evolving El Nino conditions, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) had forecast in April.
The Kharif Marketing Season (KMS) 2020-21 for paddy/rice is scheduled to commence in all the procuring states from October 1.

The Centre on Wednesday said it has approved a financial assistance of Rs 111.70 crore for Rajasthan, Manipur and Meghalaya for crop damage due to locust attack, drought and flood during the 2019-20 kharif season.
As per the the Punjab Agriculture Department, the state has completed 52 per cent sowing of kharif season crops, which is 20 per cent more compared to the last season.
As per the data shared by Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh, rice output is estimated at record 99.24 MT, oilseeds 22.19 MT, maize 21.47 MT and sugarcane 383.89 MT.
"I propose to waive farm loans totalling Rs 34,000 crore, with Rs 2 lakh per farmer family," Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy announced in the Assembly while presenting the budget for fiscal 2018-19.
Meanwhile, Congress President Rahul Gandhi indicated that the Karnataka budget, which will be presented on Thursday, will waive farm loans and said it will be a "beacon of hope for farmers".
