Karti Chidambaram on Wednesday appeared before the CBI in a matter relating to alleged irregularities in FIPB clearance to INX Media in 2007.
The court granted Karti Chidambaram the liberty to be accompanied by a lawyer who will be sitting in the room adjoining to one where he would be quizzed by the CBI
The Supreme Court also issued a notice to Karti Chidambaram for not joining the investigation. The matter will now be heard on Friday
Karti Chidambaram was today granted relief by the Madras High Court which stayed a look out circular issued against him by the Centre.
The case related to alleged irregularities in the Foreign Investment Promotion Board (FIPB) clearance to INX Media for receiving overseas funds when Karti's father P Chidambaram was the Finance Minister in 2007.
When the petition came up for hearing today on the question of maintainability, Justice P Velmurugan, after hearing arguments by both sides, adjourned it to July 28 without passing any interim order.
Karti described the case against him as "political vendetta" and said he had the backing of the Congress party.
CBI sources said that the investigation and documents in their possession showed that Karti was paid huge sums for facilitating approval from the finance ministry for foreign direct investment into INX Media in 2007
The CBI, on Tuesday, had carried out searches at the homes and offices of Karti across four cities for allegedly receiving money from the media firm owned by the Mukerjeas to scuttle a tax probe.
Karti, himself a Congress leader, left for London along with a friend, airport sources told PTI.
