With 104 seats, the BJP has emerged as the single largest party in Karnataka although the saffron party failed to get a majority in the state assembly. The BJP’s rivals – the Congress and the JD(S)- have joined hands to stake claim to form the new government in the state.
"A big thank you to all those who voted for the Congress in these elections. We appreciate your support and will fight for you," the Gandhi scion said on Twitter.
"Just now we met Governor because we are single largest party, and that he allows us to prove majority in the Assembly," Yeddyurappa said.
The chief minister went to Raj Bhavan after announcing the Congress' support to the JDS to form the government as the state headed for a hung assembly.
