"Just now we met Governor because we are single largest party, and that he allows us to prove majority in the Assembly," Yeddyurappa said.
The chief minister went to Raj Bhavan after announcing the Congress' support to the JDS to form the government as the state headed for a hung assembly.
By 3 pm, BJP was leading on 108 seats, four short of a majority, while Congress was ahead on 73 and JD(S) was leading on 40. This puts JDS in unique indispensable position to control the poll verdict in Karnataka.

The exit polls may have predicted hung assembly for Karnataka but they have failed to stir incumbent chief minister Siddaramaiah, who thinks the exit polls are mere 'entertainment'.
According to the India TV-VMR exit poll projections, out of the total 35 seats in Central Karnataka, BJP may win 17, Congress 12, JD(S)-BSP 5 and Others 1, while out of the total 21 seats in Coastal Karnataka, BJP may win only eight and Congress 13.
While Congress, BJP and JDS leaders took the opportunity of visit to polling booths to assert confidence in their respective victories, the representatives of the national parties also threw barbs at each other.
