KK Venugopal was not willing to continue in the constitutional post due to "personal reasons". But following a request by the central government, he has agreed to continue as the top law officer of the Union of India for three more months.
Venugopal had written to all the Supreme Court judges to set up a committee of three retired judges of the apex court to look into allegations of sexual harassment made against CJI Ranjan Gogoi by a dismissed woman employee of the court.
"Do not let transparency kill the electoral bond scheme," said K.K. Venugopal. The government is in favour of maintaining the anonymity of purchaser and the redeemer of electoral bonds.
The development comes a day after him and the Bar Council of India (BCI) said that the mater has been “settled” and resolved “internally”.
AG KK Venugopal reiterated that he is hopeful that all judges, including the CJI, would rise to the occasion and "wholy neutralise" the "divisiveness".
