Before the government's action, a large number of people, mostly JuD activists and its sympathizers, would gather at the mosque every Friday to listen to Saeed's sermon.
Maulana Bashir Ahmad Khaki, a senior JuD functionary considered close to Saeed, openly issued death threat to Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Friday sermon.

Hafiz Saeed, the Jamaat-ud-Dawa (JuD) chief, has been under house arrest since January 31 this year. His house arrest was extended for three more months in April which was going to expire on July 27.
